The City of Dearborn and the Dearborn Federation of Neighborhood Associations are encouraging community members to celebrate National Good Neighbor Day on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025.
The City and the Federation in partnership with the Dearborn City Beautiful Commission are promoting the national observance, which is dedicated to fostering kindness and connection with neighbors through small but meaningful actions. Good Neighbor Day serves to strengthen relationships, fight loneliness, and spread joy across communities like Dearborn.
Dearborn residents can celebrate Good Neighbor Day by setting the personal goal to:
- Meet three new neighbors
- Host a cookie exchange and chat
- Participate in a food drive
- Invite families for sidewalk chalk or bubble-blowing activities, or
- Help with leaf raking around the neighborhood.
In observance of Good Neighbor Day, Dearborn residents can also participate in local events, including:

- Dearborn’s Second Annual Coffee Week: From Friday, Sept. 26 to Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, residents can meet fellow neighbors and coffee enthusiasts for tasty drinks, food, educational sessions, coffee chats, and more. - Dearborn Library events: The Dearborn Libraries lead celebrations and activities, such as sharing treats, yard work, block parties, or community cleanups. Visit DearbornLibrary.org for details.
Other ways to participate in Good Neighbor Day include:
- Assisting a neighbor with yard work, raking leaves, or helping with other tasks they might need assistance with.
- Baking a sweet treat and delivering it to neighbors.
- Sharing a simple wave, a smile, or a friendly greeting that can make a significant difference in creating a more welcoming atmosphere.
- Organizing a block party, a potluck, a movie night, or another gathering to bring your neighbors together.
- Participating in or organizing a community cleanup or other neighborhood-enhancing project.
