Dearborn Police make arrest during Arbaeen March assault incident

 The Dearborn Police Department arrested one individual during a physical altercation at the Arbaeen March in East Dearborn on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, and is seeking assistance from the public on any others involved in unlawful behavior.

The march is a yearly religious commemoration that promotes peace and justice. As it proceeded south on Greenfield, the march was met with a group of agitators verbally engaging with marchers. An altercation between peaceful marchers and the agitators ensued, which officers deescalated.

One individual was arrested by Dearborn Police during the altercation and is currently held without bond, as the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office determines charges.

Police are also asking the community for assistance in locating any other marchers or protestors that engaged in a physical assault and any other dangerous and unlawful behavior during the otherwise peaceful march. The community can do so anonymously at 313-943-3145.

Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin stated, “We urge anyone exercising their first amendment and expression to do so peacefully and with respect to the safety of all. Physical violence will never be tolerated in Dearborn and we will take measures to hold all involved responsible.
