Dearborn will soon be home of a state-of-the-art children’s exploration and Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Center at the site of the City of Dearborn’s Esper Library, 12929 Warren Ave. The East Dearborn library branch will close temporarily beginning Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, for the construction of the transformational hands-on learning space.
Envisioned by Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud and announced at his 2025 State of the City address, the renovated Esper Library & STEAM Center aims to utilize public spaces for community connection, learning, and empowering the next generation. All Dearborn families will be able to visit and enjoy the reimagined Esper Library free of charge.
Mayor Hammoud stated, “Esper Library will be an innovative hub, offering an interactive learning destination for generations to come, all at no cost. Young minds will have the opportunity for hands-on learning, exploring robotics, music, art, engineering, 3D printing, circuitry, and more.”
The leading-edge children’s exploration center will include a signature design with hands-on STEAM discovery zones, top-line technology, a podcasting studio, and custom-designed exhibits.
Betty Adams, Director of the Dearborn Public Library, emphasized that investments in public libraries are essential for development, noting that cities that prioritize their libraries often make much-needed, pioneering improvements alongside municipal growth.
Adams stated, “Libraries are so much more than book repositories; they also serve as the center for community engagement, education, and social collaboration, all of which contribute to Dearborn’s intellectual capital and overall quality of life.”
The new space is expected to open to the public in 2026.
