City of Dearborn unveils second adaptive playscape at Ford Woods Park

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud joined local families, and advocates for youth with disabilities on Friday, April 24, 2025 to unveil the city’s second specially-designed, inclusive playscape at Ford Woods Park.
The city’s first such playscape was unveiled last November at Crowley Park. The playscapes are born out of a submission and selection process that took input from the City’s Disability Concerns Commission, Parks and Recreation Department, as well as area families who ranked designs.
The playscapes are grant funded as part of the $30M transformative PEACE Parks project to enhance and expand Dearborn’s green footprint and preserve its parks, recreational facilities, and natural resources.
The disabilities advocacy group Blue Hands United brought together resident families to be present during both unveilings and championed the unique playscapes through the Dearborn City Council approval process.
Mayor Hammoud announced a third playscape under construction at Lapeer Park at a recent State of the City address, with the goal of ensuring that, by later this year, all Dearborn families will be within 10 minutes of an accessible playscape in the city.
An unveiling date for the Lapeer Park inclusive playscape will be announced in the near future.
