Block Party Rules

City ordinances permit police to revoke a block party permit if it is deemed to be in the best interest of the residents of the city.

Residents are allowed to block off one or two blocks of a street for their event.
Applications must be received at least 72 hours before the planned event. Late applications may be denied. Applicants can select one alternate date in the event of inclement weather; no additional rain dates will be permitted.
A petition must be included with each application or be on file with the Clerk’s Office. A valid petition must include the signature of 50% of the residents living on the street that is being blocked for the event. Petitions are valid for 5 years.
The City does not permit vehicles, picnic tables, trash cans, or other large items to block the street; only city-issued barricades can be used.
Streets must be accessible to emergency vehicles during the party. Likewise, residents not participating in the event must be able to access their property at all times.

All streets must be cleared and re-opened for traffic no later than midnight on the evening of the party.

After obtaining a license to host a block party, barricades will be delivered by Department of Public Works staff to the assigned resident's address at least one day prior to the event. Barricades will be picked up by Department of Public Works staff within two days of the event.

Please leave barricades on your easement, unless it's trash day.  On trash days, they can be left on your front lawn.

Please note: if the city receives complaints from residents in this area at any time, you may be required to submit a new petition that overrides any petition currently on file.
