Officer-involved shooting under investigation

At approximately 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, Dearborn officers assigned to the Southeast Michigan Auto Crimes Consortium attempted to take the occupants of a vehicle into custody for their alleged involvement in breaking into several dozen vehicles across Metro Detroit. The arrest attempt occurred in the 100 block of Southfield Road in Ecorse.

During the arrest attempt, the driver accelerated, striking a task force officer. At that time, another task force officer discharged his weapon, striking the driver.

The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle but was taken into custody following a pursuit. He sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The task force officer who was struck was also transported to a local hospital, where he is being treated for injuries.

The Michigan State Police have assumed responsibility for the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. The information contained in this release is preliminary and subject to change as investigators continue to gather and review evidence.

There is no ongoing threat to the public. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The Southeast Michigan Auto Crimes Consortium is a regional task force managed by the Dearborn Police Department that partners with federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies to investigate organized auto theft and related crimes across Southeast Michigan.
