Dearborn Police investigating fatal animal torture case; 18-year-old charged

Published May 28, 2026

On May 26, 2026, Dearborn Police officers responded to a residence on Chicago St after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting that a dog was being violently assaulted inside the home.

When officers arrived, they located the dog suffering from severe and catastrophic injuries. The dog was immediately transported to an emergency veterinary hospital in Allen Park, where veterinarians determined the injuries were too extensive to survive.

The dog, a two-year-old pit mix, was humanely euthanized due to the severity of the trauma.

Following the investigation, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged 18-year-old Singin Nelson with Killing/Torturing an Animal - Second Degree. Nelson was arraigned before Judge Salemy and issued a $250,000.00 cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 10, 2026 at 10 a.m. in the 19th District Court.

Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin stated, “Our officers were confronted with an extremely disturbing case of animal abuse, and this level of cruelty will not be tolerated in our community. We are committed to thoroughly investigating these incidents and holding those responsible fully accountable under the law.”
