How to Apply for Dearborn Senior Housing
Please be advised that the Dearborn Housing Commission (DHC) has closed all waitlists for the following properties due to reaching full capacity: Townsend Towers, Kennedy Plaza, and Sisson Manor. Thank you for your understanding.
The City of Dearborn is committed to providing accessible and affordable housing options for its residents through two distinct programs:
1.) The Dearborn Housing Division
2.) The Dearborn Housing Commission
The Dearborn Housing Department provides housing for "moderate income" seniors aged 55 years and older.
To be considered for senior housing through either the City of Dearborn Housing Division or federal housing through the Dearborn Housing Commission, it is necessary to submit an application. There is a different application for 1.) Dearborn Housing Division buildings and 2.) Dearborn Housing Commission buildings.
The average wait time from receipt of an application to placement of a resident in senior housing is up to one year.
To complete an application, you must be able to provide information from the following:
If you reach the top group of the waitlist, a member of the Dearborn Housing Division or the Dearborn Housing Commission will contact you by mail to complete intake paperwork.
After receiving all the intake paperwork, your eligibility will be determined based on income verification, citizenship, and a background check. Once determined eligible, a staff member will contact you when it's your turn to view an apartment.
The average wait time is one year.
Applications are only accepted when the respective waiting list for the chosen building is open.
