Step 4: Complete inspection requirements

The City Residential Inspection Report:

The inspection report is created electronically and will not be available on site. A copy is available through the city's website after 5 p.m. on the day of the inspection. Any questions about items on the inspection reports should be directed to the inspector who was there on the day of the inspection.

All items listed on the report are considered code violations and will need to be corrected and then reinspected.

There are 3 columns in the report:

  1. the location of the issue
  2. the item needing attention
  3. if a permit may be required

Homeowners may obtain most permits; however, it is recommended that permits be obtained by licensed contractors. Liability for repairs is with the person obtaining the permit. Permit application forms are available online.

Please note: all permit work and approved permit inspections must be completed prior to an occupancy re-inspection being scheduled.

For permit information, email: DbnPermits@dearborn.gov or call the response center for general information at 313-943-2150.

Inspection reports are valid for 1 year from the date of the first inspection.

Due to these date dependencies,  if there are any questions/situations regarding the status of a sales inspection, please email the staff for more information: DbnRentals@dearborn.gov.
