The Dearborn Administrative Center and several City buildings will be closed on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. Trash collection schedule will not be impacted.
The City of Dearborn is creating a plan to construct new homes and greenspace on nearly 40+ City-owned properties in the Lonyo Neighborhood.
The City owns about 40+ parcels in this neighborhood, consisting of residential, commercial, and green spaces in the Lonyo Neighborhood.
The Economic Development Department is establishing a proactive strategy to:
This project is funded by the City of Dearborn.
The final plan will include the following:
The final plan is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025.
This will be determined by the design process and based on the sizes of the homes proposed.
The plan will include five different housing types including a single-family home, two types of two-family (duplex) home designs, a home with a carriage house (garage with living space above), and a home with a detached garage.
This has yet to be determined. We are hearing from the community that they want these homes to be affordable to Dearborn residents and the ultimate design of the homes, in terms of size, layout, and materials, will reflect this.
Interested parties can pursue purchasing the vacant lots, but the City will require assurance that one of the approved home designs will be constructed on the lot within three years.
Home designs include single-family and two-family (duplex) homes designed to compliment existing single-family homes in the Lonyo Neighborhood. The goal is to blend them with the existing neighborhood character. There will be no apartment buildings.
Private realtors/realty companies will sell the homes. The City will not sell the new homes, but they will have deed restrictions and other regulations governing how they are sold and ensuring sale at affordable prices to meet the City’s goal of providing affordable options for homeownership for Dearborn residents.
City property, including the lots in this project, must be sold through a public process that provides an opportunity for all interested parties to have a chance at purchasing the property. We expect demand to be far greater than the number of lots available and will be releasing details about the process well in advance so that everyone who is interested will be aware of how to participate.
After completing pre-development work (designs, bid documents, etc.), the City will sell the lots in a public process, resulting in the homes being built and sold privately, within the rules and restrictions set by the City.
