Dearborn to identify property maintenance concerns before winter season during fall Sweep Weeks

Published Sept. 30, 2024

The City of Dearborn is calling on residents to complete outdoor seasonal clean-up at their properties during fall Sweep Weeks. The initiative, led by the Dearborn Economic Development Department’s Code Enforcement Division, begins Monday, Sept. 30, and will run through Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.

The biannual program charges City code enforcement officers with the task of assisting residents in addressing common property ordinance issues, including trash, tall grass, signage, and property upkeep and maintenance, before and after the winter months.

Renault Arseneau, Code Enforcement Manager, stated, “Sweep Weeks are a reminder to our residents about the importance of fall clean-up and maintenance responsibilities to prepare for winter. We are here to help residents as they begin cleaning up debris, preparing their yards by storing summer and seasonal items, and providing upkeep on yard maintenance, tall grass, and weeds.”

When a property maintenance issue is identified during the Sweep Weeks, City code enforcement officers will attempt to alert the resident or business owner first and ensure that they are aware of what is needed to resolve the concern. Property owners who fail to resolve identified concerns will be issued a notice of violation rather than a ticket.
