The City of Dearborn follows a schedule to collect trash, recycling, and yard waste every weekday.

Public Service Days & Trash Pickup

The City also cleans residential streets on trash collection days. These days are called Public Service Days and are assigned by neighborhood.

Public Service Days begin March 11, and run through Oct. 31, 2024.

If your waste pick-up services have been missed:

The City of Dearborn is transitioning between waste management providers, from GFL to Priority Waste. We understand that this transition has caused interruptions in trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulk pickup services across Dearborn. The City is actively working to resolve these issues. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work towards a resolution.

What can be placed in each cart?

Regular trash placed in the green recycling carts can result in a violation and a ticket under City ordinances.

Gray Trash Cart

The following items should be thrown away in the gray trash cart:

  • - Household trash
  • - Styrofoam of any kind
  • - Wood
  • - Clothing, shoes, cushions, pillows, or other fabrics
  • - Plants and organic seasonal decor such as hay bales/pumpkins
Green Recycling Cart

The following items may be recycled in the green recycling cart:

  • - Junk mail and paper bags
  • - Newspapers, magazines, and catalogs
  • - Steel, tin, and aluminum cans
  • - Plastic jugs/bottles
  • - Household plastic and metal
  • - Plastic bags

How to Order a Trash and/or Recycling Cart or Schedule a Repair

Those who routinely generate more trash for collection than what the standard gray trash cart will hold are required to order an additional trash cart through the City.

To order a trash cart, call 313-943-2150 or complete the fillable application form.

You will be billed a one-time fee of $60 for an additional cart. However, there is no extra charge for weekly pickup.

Yard Waste Disposal

Yard waste must be placed in 20-32 gallon reusable containers that clearly display a yard waste sticker from the City of Dearborn or in paper yard waste bags on Public Service Days during trash collection. Containers and yard waste bags should be placed on the property easement on trash collection day.

Never place containers or bags in the street.

Residents can pick up free yard waste stickers at the Dearborn Administrative Center and all Dearborn Public Library branches, or by calling 313-943-2150.

Special Pick Up & Bulk Items

Excessive quantities of trash, large or heavy bulk items, bundles of brush, carpet, and some appliances require a Special Pick-Up. A service fee will be charged for each special pickup coordinated through the City.

The City of Dearborn also offers a bulk collection program that is intended for standard household items that do not fit in a trash cart.

Household bulk items can be placed outside of your trash cart each week. A separate truck picks these items up by the end of your trash day.

To arrange a special pickup or for more information, call 313-943-2150.

To avoid a fee, Dearborn residents can dispose of items at the DPW yard, 2951 Greenfield at no cost on the third Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Shred Day

The City also hosts seasonal Shred Days to provide Dearborn residents with a free option to dispose of paper products. Residents can take advantage of Shred Day at the DPW Yard, 2951 Greenfield Rd, from 7:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. on the following days:

  • Spring Shred Day on May 11, 2024

  • Fall Shred Day on Sept. 14, 2024
