Election Workers

The City of Dearborn hires election workers (also known as election inspectors) to assist at polling places, with processing of absentee ballots on Election Day, and support early voting in the nine days leading up to an election. Election workers are trained and compensated by the City of Dearborn.

Election workers receive paid training from the City of Dearborn.

Eligibility

To serve as an election worker, you must: 

Be at least 16 years old.
If you are at least 18 years old, you must also be registered to vote in Michigan.
Computer proficiency is preferred.

To serve as an election worker, complete an application and return it to the City Clerk's Office in person at the Dearborn Administrative Center (16901 Michigan Ave) or by mail to:

Serve on Election Day

Election workers are needed to help operate polling places and process absentee ballots on Election Day for the following elections: 

Aug. 6, 2024 (State Primary Election)

Nov. 5, 2024 (General Election)

All election workers must stay at their assigned post until all work is completed. 
 

Serve at a Polling Place

Set up your assigned polling place, verify voters' registration, issue assigned ballots, help voters submit their ballot into the tabulator, share "I Voted" stickers, and properly shut down the polling place when voting concludes. 

 

Hours: 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.* 

Pay: $225 for the day

 

* Or until work is completed

Serve at the Absentee Ballot Receiving Board

Assist with preparing absentee ballots to be tabulated, tabulating absentee ballots, and handling absentee ballots for required retention. 

Hours:  7 p.m. - 12 a.m. (Midnight) *

Pay: $100 for the day

Serve During Early Voting

Election workers are needed to help facilitate early voting in the nine days leading up to the following elections: 

July 27 - Aug. 4, 2024 (State Primary Election) 

Oct. 26 - Nov. 3, 2024 (General Election)

 

 

 

Weekend and weekday shifts are available. 

Hours:  8 a.m. – 9 p.m.                

Pay: $170 per day 

All election workers must stay at their assigned post until all work is completed.
