Dearborn Police obtain felony charge for Delivery of Controlled Substance Causing Death in 2024 overdose case

The Dearborn Police Department announced today the arrest of and felony charge filed against a suspect in an illegal drug transaction that is suspected to have led to a fatal overdose of a Dearborn resident last year.
Anthony Earl Moore, 59, of Ypsilanti, was arraigned at the 19th District Court in front of Honorable Judge Gene Hunt on one felony charge of Delivery of Controlled Substance Causing Death and was issued a $500,000 bond with GPS Tether. A Probable Cause Conference is set for Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025.
On Jan. 30, 2024, Dearborn emergency personnel responded to reports of an unresponsive adult male on Venice St. The individual was declared deceased at the scene.
Further investigation by the Dearborn Police Department revealed drug paraphernalia at the scene, as well as the presence of a controlled substance. A subsequent Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office report confirmed the victim had experienced an accidental overdose caused by cocaine and fentanyl toxicity.
Dearborn Police investigators utilized cell phone data, GPS, surveillance footage, and numerous other tools to identify Moore as the source of the illicit substance.
On Feb. 3, 2025, Dearborn Detective Bureau and Dearborn Special Operations located Moore in Taylor, where officers took Moore into custody after a traffic stop without incident.
Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin stated, “Utilizing multiple investigative tools, Dearborn Police investigators were able to track down the supplier in this tragic overdose incident. I am proud of the work of the Dearborn Police Department to bring this individual to justice and hopefully provide some solace to the victim’s loved ones.”

- Wagner Parking Deck, 1034 Monroe St (also includes supply of free fentanyl testing strips)
- The Islamic Center of Detroit, 14350 Tireman Ave, Detroit, MI
