Dearborn Police Department launches new Aggressive Driving Unit

Published June 1, 2026

The Dearborn Police Department has introduced a new Aggressive Driving Unit aimed at identifying and enforcing hazardous driving behaviors throughout the city of Dearborn.

This unit was officially unveiled during Dearborn's 100th Annual Memorial Day Parade, where the department showcased three new all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E police vehicles. These vehicles have been specifically assigned to the Aggressive Driving Unit and will be utilized to proactively identify and stop drivers engaged in dangerous driving behaviors.

The specialized enforcement team will focus on aggressive, reckless, careless, distracted, and other hazardous moving violations that contribute to traffic crashes and endanger public safety. The Mustang Mach-E vehicles were chosen for their performance capabilities, maneuverability, and quiet operation, which allow officers to blend in with traffic and more effectively identify dangerous driving behavior.

Traffic safety remains a top concern for Dearborn residents and continues to be a priority for the Dearborn Police Department.

Chief Issa Shahin stated, "I heard and listened to the residents of Dearborn who complained about poor driving behaviors throughout the city. We are taking further action by implementing this new unit. The Aggressive Driving Unit will strictly enforce hazardous moving violations throughout the city. The addition of the three Mustang Mach-E vehicles will enable officers to operate in a more discreet manner to identify dangerous traffic violators and enforce traffic laws."

The creation of the Aggressive Driving Unit is a new addition to the city's comprehensive traffic safety strategy. Dearborn's approach to enhancing roadway safety includes a blend of enforcement, education, and engineering initiatives designed to reduce crashes, improve driver behavior, and create safer streets for residents and visitors.

In 2025, Dearborn Police Officers issued over 33,000 traffic citations as part of the department's ongoing efforts to reduce hazardous driving and prevent traffic-related injuries and fatalities. The new Aggressive Driving Unit will further strengthen those efforts by providing dedicated personnel and resources focused specifically on the most dangerous driving behaviors occurring on Dearborn roadways.

The Dearborn Police Department reminds motorists that traffic laws are in place to protect everyone who uses the road. Drivers are encouraged to obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions, avoid aggressive driving behaviors, and share the road responsibly.
