Charges announced in assault on elderly victim in Dearborn

The Dearborn Police Department announced today charges against a suspect involved in a Friday, July 4, 2025, assault on an elderly victim in Dearborn.
On Friday, the Dearborn Police Department responded to the area of Michigan Ave near Nowlin St after receiving reports of a road rage incident that resulted in an assault on an 85-year-old Dearborn resident. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Witness reports and surveillance footage from neighboring businesses enabled police investigators to identify and arrest a suspect in the case on Saturday, July 5.
John Kreitner, 55, of Westland, was arraigned at the 19th District Court on Monday, July 7 on a charge of Aggravated Assault. The Court ordered a $20,000 cash bond and a GPS tether. A Probable Cause Conference is set for July 16, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.
Dearborn Chief of Police Issa Shahin stated, “Such violence is completely unacceptable in our city and we will use all resources to pursue justice for victims and their families. We again thank witnesses who aided our investigation and the local business for the use of their surveillance footage that helped us identify and arrest the suspect.”
