Dearborn Police investigating traffic collision involving young pedestrian

Shortly after 7:35 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, Dearborn Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of Ford and Schaefer Rds to a vehicle, pedestrian collision.

An initial investigation revealed a black Jeep Cherokee driving westbound on Ford Rd collided with a 15-year-old, female Fordson High School student in the area of the intersection. After rendering aid, paramedics rushed the pedestrian to a nearby hospital.

As of now, the pedestrian is in critical condition. Further details will be provided as they become known in the ongoing investigation. To protect the minor’s privacy, the Dearborn Police Department will not release her name.

Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin stated, “Our prayers are with the victim’s family, as well as the school staff and students at Fordson, and we hope for an eventual recovery. We continue to urge drivers to pay attention to their surroundings, slow down, and be safe on the roads.”

The Department is working with officials at the Dearborn Public Schools district, where grief counseling will be available to both staff and students.
