Henry Ford Centennial Library to temporarily close for essential electrical upgrades; Bryant Branch to extend hours

The Dearborn Public Library will temporarily close the Henry Ford Centennial Library, 16301 Michigan Ave, from Tuesday, April 21, through Thursday, April 23, 2026, for necessary infrastructure improvements. 

The facility is scheduled to reopen for regular business hours on Friday, April 24, 2026.

This scheduled closure is necessary to complete a comprehensive electrical overhaul. Crews will be connecting a new underground power line to the building, replacing electrical transformers at both ends of the facility, and installing new internal breaker panels. These upgrades will ensure the long-term reliability and safety of the library’s power systems.

To accommodate patrons during the HFCL closure, the Bryant Branch library, 22100 Michigan Ave, will offer extended hours:

  • Tuesday, April 21 to Thursday, April 23: Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday, April 24: Bryant Branch returns to regular hours (closed Fridays).
  • Saturday, April 25: Open 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Access to Materials

  • Holds Pickup: All patron holds scheduled for pickup at HFCL, including MeLCat holds, will be temporarily transferred to the Bryant Branch Library for the duration of the closure.
  • HFCL Lockers & Returns: The holds pickup locker at HFCL will remain available during the closure. The HFCL drop box will also remain open for returning materials.

Programming Changes
Several programs originally scheduled for HFCL have been relocated or rescheduled:

Relocated to Bryant Branch (Main Floor):

  • Family Storytime: Tuesday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Best Sellers Book Club: Tuesday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. (First Floor).
  • Baby Storytime: Wednesday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m.
  • DIY Seed Balls: Now a Grab & Go Craft; kits available for pickup at the Bryant Branch.

Relocated to Ford Community & Performing Arts Center:

  • Master Rain Garden Class: Wednesday, April 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Art Activity Room, 15801 Michigan Ave.

Rescheduled Date:

  • Get Crafty Adults: Poetry Magnets: Originally April 23, this event is moved up to Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m. in the SparkLab at the HFCL.
