The National Weather Service (NWS) and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) have issued a Statewide Air Quality Alert for Thursday, July 16, 2026. Outdoor conditions are considered unsafe; residents are advised to stay indoors.
As a result, all pools in the city, including the indoor pool at The Center, are closed today, and all recreation events in Dearborn, including those at Camp Dearborn, are canceled.
Smoke from the Canadian wildfires continues to degrade air quality across Michigan. Air quality has reached the Public Health 'hazardous' level, making the air unsafe for everyone, not just sensitive groups. Residents are advised to stay indoors and use air conditioning when possible, limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity, and watch for symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning eyes, nose, or throat. Seek medical attention if any symptoms become severe.
The health and safety of the community and staff will continue to be monitored by the city, which will share updates as they arise.
