Parents and tots explore the water together through songs, games, and guided activities that build comfort, confidence, and a love for swimming.
Beginning swimmers learn water safety, jumping in, kicking, floating, and basic movement through fun, instructor-led activities.
Swimmers build confidence by improving floating, gliding, submerging, and moving safely through the water with greater independence.
Swimmers strengthen floating, kicking, breathing, and gliding skills while building endurance and confidence in deeper water.
Swimmers begin combining arm strokes, kicks, and breathing to develop freestyle technique and swim longer distances independently.
Swimmers refine freestyle, improve endurance, and build confidence in deep water while strengthening stroke technique and coordination.
Swimmers continue improving freestyle while learning the fundamentals of backstroke, focusing on body position, kicks, and arm movement.
Swimmers master backstroke, increase endurance, and develop stronger, smoother swimming with improved control and technique.
Swimmers focus on water safety, treading water, self-rescue, and basic rescue skills while strengthening freestyle and backstroke.
Swimmers refine freestyle and backstroke while learning breaststroke, improving endurance, starts, turns, and overall stroke technique.
Advanced swimmers master all four competitive strokes, build endurance, and practice starts, turns, and advanced water skills for independent swimming.
Dearborn-area children can learn to swim this summer through lessons offered at the City’s outdoor pools.
Classes, which run 30 minutes, meet Monday through Thursday for two weeks. Make up lessons, necessitated by inclement weather, are conducted on Friday.

Residents: $75 for residents
Non-Residents: $90
A seasonal swim tag is also required.

The “Learn to Swim” program for children offers twice-a-week classes which meet either: Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday for five weeks, and a once-a-week class which meets Saturdays for 10 weeks.

All classes are held at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave.
Private swim lessons are available in our indoor pool for would be swimmers of all ages. Tailor a schedule that works for you, subject to the availablity of an instructor. Registration requires a minimum of two lessons, but you can register for as many as you wish.

Swimming activities include Masters Swimming for adult fitness and competition, Synchronized Swimming which combines swimming and choreography, and Swim Teams that train swimmers for races.
