City of Dearborn to host first annual BabyBash

The City of Dearborn Department of Public Health, in partnership with Rx Kids and presented by Detroit Action, will host the first annual BabyBash on Friday, Aug. 7, during the 2026 Dearborn Homecoming Festival. Dedicated to babies, toddlers and young children, BabyBash will bring families together for an afternoon of celebration, learning and connection.
This free event will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the festival’s Sunrise Stage. Pre-registration is required at DearbornHomecoming.com/BabyBash.
Families attending BabyBash can enjoy live entertainment, story time, music and dancing, character meet-and-greets featuring Bluey and Ms. Rachel impersonators, community resources, giveaways, and other activities designed for young children and their caregivers. Community partner ACCESS will also sponsor a nursing pod to provide parents with a comfortable space to feed and care for their babies during the festival.
Dearborn Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud stated, “Dearborn is a city built around families. With more babies born per capita than any other city in Michigan, we are incredibly proud of what we have accomplished alongside Rx Kids. The annual BabyBash is both a celebration of that work and a reminder that we are only getting started. Together, we will continue investing in Dearborn families and ensuring every child has the support they need to thrive.”
Rx Kids launched in Dearborn in November 2025 and provides eligible mothers with a one-time payment of $1,500 during pregnancy, followed by payments of $500 per month for the first six months after their baby is born. As of July 2026, Rx Kids has distributed more than $3.9 million to over a 1000 Dearborn families and supported more than 1000 babies.
A maternal and infant health effort, Rx Kids is the nation’s first community-wide maternal and infant cash-prescription program. The initiative is designed to help families manage the financial pressures that often accompany pregnancy and infancy while supporting improved maternal health, infant health and family stability. Across participating communities, families commonly use Rx Kids payments for baby supplies, food, housing, utilities and transportation. Rx Kids has shown measurable improvements in family financial stability, maternal and infant health, and community investment.
“We are delighted that more than 1,000 families in Dearborn have already benefitted from the support Rx Kids provides during pregnancy and infancy,” said Dr. Mona Hanna, director of Rx Kids and associate dean of public health at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. “That means more families have been able to afford essentials like nutritious food, stable housing, transportation and baby supplies during one of the most important times in a child’s life. BabyBash is a chance to celebrate these families and the incredible impact we can make when we invest directly in moms and babies.”
