City of Dearborn reminds residents of new property maintenance requirements

Published April 1, 2026

The City of Dearborn is reminding residents of its new property maintenance issue and abatement rules.

The City will continue to issue notices for tall grass, weeds, and property repair and cleanliness violations.

City’s rules adopted last year require property owners or occupants to contact the City via email, phone, or through a QR Code and form link provided in the notice of abatement, and to send a photo or other proof that the issue has been resolved in a timely manner.

Renault Arseneau, Dearborn Code Compliance Manager, stated, “We know our residents take pride in their city by maintaining their properties. For those that need to address certain maintenance problems, we are reminding them to send us proof before we expend City resources to correct the issue.”

Failure to resolve the issue or turn in this proof before the deadline will result in a service charge of 50 percent of the abatement cost to the City, not exceeding $1000. This charge will help cover administrative costs associated with assigning contractors or staff to abate the issue.

Grass enforcement season officially begins April 1, 2026.
