Henry Ford Centennial Library announces schedule for upcoming events in July

The Henry Ford Centennial Library (HFCL), 16301 Michigan Ave, has a full schedule of events taking place during the month of July, ranging from author talks and historical presentations to interactive wellness workshops and gaming sessions. 

Dearborn Public Library welcomes a series of new author talks 
The Dearborn Public Library is hosting a series of author discussions and historical presentations throughout July 2026. 

Featured events include author presentations by Rob Miller, Heather Bruegel, sportswriter Tom Gage and retired Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila, and a biography presentation by historian H.W. Brands.

All author talks are free of charge, but require advance registration. Reserve your spot on the library’s event calendar at DearbornLibrary.org or by clicking one of the links below. 

On Tuesday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m., author and musician Rob Miller will discuss his new book, The Hours Are Long, But The Pay Is Low: A Life in Independent Music, with musician Matthew Smith as part of the Michigan Notable Book Author Tour. 

Heather Bruegl, Curator of Political and Civic Engagement at The Henry Ford, will present a talk titled America 250: In-Person Talk on the Freedom Plane Tour on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. The presentation focuses on significant historical documents, including the Declaration of Independence, which are on loan from the National Archives as part of a traveling exhibition. While in-person seating is no longer available, virtual registration for the Zoom presentation remains open.

Celebrate Your Detroit Tigers with sportswriter Tom Gage and Alex Avila, American former professional baseball catcher for the Detroit Tigers. Learn more about their new book Your Detroit Tigers: The Great, The Good, The Top 400, covering Tigers stars from 1901 to the present on Saturday, July 11 at 1 p.m. Avila spent most of his athletic career with the Detroit Tigers, serving as the team’s catcher from 2009-2021.

On Thursday, July 16, historian H.W. Brands will discuss his new biography American Patriarch: The Life of George Washington, in a virtual presentation, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Attendees may join in-person at the library auditorium or via Zoom

Interactive wellness and creative summer programs
Enjoy programs about self-care, and develop new skills through a variety of hands-on workshops and interactive programming at the HFCL.

The library provides diverse activities and opportunities throughout the summer, including lifestyle sessions, yoga, and crafting workshops.

Patrons are welcome to join the following events:

  • Tuesdays, July 7 & 21 from 4-5 p.m. – Eat Smart, Live Strong: An interactive program providing tools and tips for making positive, long-lasting lifestyle changes.
  • Tuesday, July 14 from 6-7 p.m. – Relax and Restore: A somatic self-care practice designed to reconnect mind and body, featuring yoga suitable for all levels (ages 13+).
  • Thursday July 16 from 5-7:30 p.m. – Needlefelted Dinosaurs: Come to the SparkLab for a craft workshop creating needlefelted dinosaur companions (ages 13+).
  • Saturday, July 18 from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. – Escape Room: The Lost Artifact: An immersive escape challenge for adults and teens. Registration is required for one-hour time slots
  • Saturday July 18 from 1:30–4:30 p.m. – Dungeons & Dragons: An adventure session for teens and adults. Supplies are provided, and beginners are welcome.

Monthly FOLD Book & Media Sale on Wednesday July, 8
The Friends of the Library Dearborn (FOLD) host their monthly book and media sale on Wednesday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Centennial Library.

The July sale will feature all fiction books at buy one, get one free prices.

There are also other items available for purchase at the ongoing sales shelves on the second floor. 

FOLD accepts cash and checks at their table on the first floor. Electronic payments can be made on the second floor. Proceeds from the FOLD book sales are used to support library programs and services.
