Dearborn launches TextMyGov notification system

Published March 17, 2026

Dearborn residents can now receive text updates from the City of Dearborn under a new service made possible by TextMyGov. The City will utilize the program to send localized text updates to subscribed users in Dearborn about neighborhood updates, like water services, leaf collection, trash pickup, road closures, City-sponsored events, and more.

TextMyGov is a contracted service that supports municipalities in sending SMS text notifications directly to subscribers in set geographic areas. Dearborn residents can sign up to receive text updates from the City of Dearborn by texting "DEARBORN" to 91896. To opt out of receiving texts from the City, subscribers may text “STOP” to the same number.

Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud stated, "The implementation of TextMyGov underscores our dedication to strengthening connections with residents and adding to the ways we provide instant information.”

Users signed up to receive texts through TextMyGov will not receive text messages concerning severe weather and emergencies. The City of Dearborn will continue to communicate about both through its Nixle service. Nixle, like TextMyGov, is a free service that residents can sign up for to receive timely text alerts from the City of Dearborn’s police and fire departments. To sign up for Nixle alerts, residents are encouraged to text their Dearborn zip code to 888777.

Messaging and data rates apply for those who register for the City’s TextMyGov service at Dearborn.gov/TextMyGov. More information on terms and the program's privacy policy is available at Dearborn.gov/SMSPrivacyPolicy
