Police announce person of interest in custody in fatal domestic violence incident

At approximately 7:35 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, Dearborn Police officers responded to the 7800 block of Reuter St on the city’s northeast side to a call of domestic violence with one reported victim.

Officers arrived on scene within 3 minutes of the dispatch call and immediately attempted to deliver CPR and assistance to the 70-year-old victim, Jamila Alwan, who succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased at the scene by the Dearborn Fire Department.

After an investigation, Dearborn Police placed one member of the household in custody.

Issa Shahin, Dearborn Police Chief, stated, “We extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim. Senseless acts of this nature can shake the community to its core. We will continue this investigation diligently in order to deliver justice for the victim.”
