Mayor Hammoud, officials cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Morningside Park

DEARBORN, MI – Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud was joined by officials from Dearborn Parks & Recreation, Wayne County, and community members on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, to unveil new recreation fixtures and a splash pad at the expanded Morningside Park.

Mayor Hammoud proudly joined the Southend community and local officials to inaugurate Morningside Park's new playscape and splash pad, which were made possible by a financial commitment from Wayne County.

The park’s new amenities include:

  • a brand new splash pad;
  • Dearborn’s first playground with turf;
  • a second shelter; and
  • accessible walkways throughout the park.

By repurposing an adjacent parcel, the whole park area has been expanded to adequately meet the needs of the growing community. New fencing around the entire perimeter of the park has been installed to enhance safety.

At the ceremony, Hammoud stated, “Our sincere gratitude goes out to Wayne County in recognizing an opportunity to invest in a central greenspace and recreation spot that will serve Dearborn’s Southend community for generations, helping these families form deeper connections with their neighborhoods and lasting memories.”

The Morningside Park renovation is part of a series of pivotal green projects meant to bolster public health interventions and modernize Dearborn’s public parks and recreation spaces.
