Dearborn Mayor, Police Chief send letters to local driving schools to enhance traffic safety

Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud and Police Chief Issa Shahin are reaching out to driving schools to support a City-wide initiative to improve traffic safety and enhance community awareness and participation for safer roads. The Dearborn leaders recently sent letters to all local driving schools, urging them to evaluate their performance and follow all legal driving regulations.
Mayor Hammoud stated, “Our community's safety also depends on properly trained, knowledgeable drivers familiar with the State of Michigan requirements and standards through a comprehensive driving school education program. We want to ensure that we are engaging all parties, including driving schools, in trying to tackle speeding and reckless driving in our city. By working together, we can ensure the safety and well-being of our community.”
Mayor Hammoud, Chief Shahin, other City leaders, and community members are seeking partnerships with local driving schools to encourage open communication and collaboration, ensure high driver education, and create safer roads for everyone.
Chief Shahin added, “We have received reports and concerns that some driving schools have attempted to circumvent these regulations and may be certifying students who have not adequately completed the required coursework or demonstrated sufficient driving proficiency. Compromising safety for any reason is unacceptable.”
