The City of Dearborn Department of Public Health (DPH) has been awarded a $12,000 grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC) to support arts and culture programming that enhances public health.

Emagine Health Services will provide matching funds, further strengthening the initiative. This competitive grant will allow the City to support programs that harness the power of the arts to promote well-being, ensuring residents can experience the civic, economic, and educational benefits of creative expression.

Ali Abazeed, Dearborn’s Chief Public Health Officer, stated, "We know that health isn’t just about clinics and policies — it’s about the environments we create, the connections we foster, and the opportunities we provide. By leveraging resources such as this grant, we’re making sure health and creativity go hand in hand in building a stronger, more vibrant community."

The MACC, under the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), provides funding for state, city, and local entities organizing art and cultural services. In Dearborn, this funding will be used to encourage creative expression, centering the community’s diversity while promoting public health.

Sara Elhasan, Public Health Advisor, added, “DPH is excited to host events that weave public health education into engaging, inclusive, and accessible activities. Promoting well-being and creativity while cultivating a strong sense of community is a priority for the City.”

Details on upcoming programming will be available on the City of Dearborn’s website and via Dearborn DPH social media (@DearbornDPH on Facebook and Instagram).
