The City of Dearborn has received its third consecutive award for excellence in financial reporting and transparency by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

The GFOA has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Dearborn for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024.

Michael Kennedy, Dearborn’s Finance Director and Treasurer, stated, “The continued recognition by North America’s official government finance association is a testament to our efforts in maintaining accurate accounting to ensure full disclosure and transparency in all of our financial reporting, year after year.”

The GFOA selected an impartial panel to judge Dearborn’s year-end financial report, which concluded that it met the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial records.

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud added, “For the past three years, we have made fiscal responsibility a standard for the City of Dearborn. This award reflects that our dedication to delivering balanced and transparent budgets has put Dearborn on course for a better financial future.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

About GFOA and the Certificate Program

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), founded in 1906, represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. It established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (Certificate Program) in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
