Step 2: Schedule an inspection

After submitting an application with payment, City staff will contact the applicant to establish and schedule an appointment for the inspection. The staff will confirm a date and time with a general time window for the inspection. A contact phone number of the person (must be at least 18 years of age) who will be onsite the day of the inspection will be required. Without a working phone number for the day of the appointment, there will be no guarantee of the inspection taking place.

Inspections are performed Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Generally residential occupancy inspections are scheduled with east Dearborn addresses in the morning (between 9 a.m. and noon) and west Dearborn addresses in the afternoon (between noon - 4 p.m.). Inspection windows are general guidelines. Specific times will be confirmed on the inspection day by the inspector. The adult meeting the inspector must be at least 18 years of age. The inspection report is created electronically and will be available on the city website after 5 p.m. on the inspection day.
