The City of Dearborn’s Parking Advisory Commission approved a new, one year pilot program beginning Monday, Oct. 5, that will test a 3-hour parking limit in key West Downtown locations. This program, initiated in response to feedback from nearly four dozen businesses, aims to increase parking availability for customers and visitors near the businesses that depend on them.
The time limits will be in effect seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. starting Oct. 5. Parking limits will be waived during designated city events. The Dearborn Police Department will start enforcement of these limits in four areas where business feedback indicated that parking challenges have been most potent. The initial locations implementing the 3-hour limit enforcement are:
The new time limits are designed to keep prime storefront parking available for short-term customers and visitors, allowing more people to use these spaces throughout the day. Local business owners and employees can still access hundreds of spaces within close proximity of their businesses. These include the upper levels of the Wagner Deck and the East and West parking decks on West Village Drive, which will remain available for unlimited parking. Vehicles parking in handicap spaces with a valid permit will not be subject to time limit enforcement.
Dearborn Economic Development Director Jordan Twardy, stated, "Balancing the needs of customers, visitors, and employees is critical to making sure our businesses can continue to thrive. This is why the Parking Advisory Commission acted in response to the feedback from nearly four dozen businesses in the district."
The pilot program will be evaluated and adjusted as needed by the Commission, which meets quarterly.
